SIX NIGHTS AT TERRA STAR RV PARK IN CHECOTAH, OKALAHOMA (PEACEFUL CAMPGROUND & LAKE EUFAULA) - Monday, October 21 - Saturday, October 26, 2024

Monday October 21, 2024

Today, we traveled 305 miles from Lake Jacomo Campground in Lee's Summit, Missouri to Terra Star RV Park in Checotah, Oklahoma (near Lake Eufaula).

We left our campsite around 7:15 a.m. and went to the dump station, and then headed out of the campground where Mel hooked the jeep up. While he was doing that I took some beautiful pictures of the sunrise over the lake (see above and below).

And we were off on our journey at 8:00 a.m.

We briefly followed the Historic Route 66 today, and had a little bit of road construction off and on along the interstate.

We arrived at Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma at around 2:20 p.m.

Lake Eufaula is a reservoir in Oklahoma. It is located on the Canadian River, 27 miles upstream from its confluence with the Arkansas River and near the town of Eufaula. The lake covers parts of McIntosh County, Pittsburg, Haskell and Okmulgee counties and drains 47,522 square miles. Water sources include the Canadian, North Fork Canadian and Deep Fork rivers. It is the largest-capacity lake in the state of Oklahoma with a volume of 2,099,000 acre-feet, a surface area of 102,000 acres and 600 miles of shoreline.

Congress approved construction of the dam and lake in 1946 to provide flood control, hydroelectric power, water supply, navigation and recreation. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers began construction of the 3,199 feet long Eufaula Dam wall in 1956 and was completed in 1964. President Lyndon B. Johnson came to Oklahoma to dedicate the dam on September 25, 1964. The dam holds back a lake area of over 159 square miles. The hydroelectric power station was designed to provide 90,000 kilowatts of electric power from the lake waters.

We turned right off the Interstate 69 to follow Hwy 150 to the Terra Star RV Park.

The Terra Star RV Park (a Passport Park) is located between Checotah and Eufaula, Oklahoma. Nestled on the North shores of Lake Eufaula in Checotah, Oklahoma, the 52 acre, member-owned and operated park offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all types of campers. There are over 150 RV sites.

We got set up on site #4 at around 2:50 p.m.

Mel and I both rode our bikes around the Terra Star RV Park.

Today I got the bottom of my PO-KE-NO box made out of the plastic canvas. I have a lot to go before I have all the elements finished for this game.

So gather your pennies, because soon it will be PO-KE-NO night!
